the way i see it, society has this whole thing twisted. I started thinking about this last night at my moms. We all seem to have the idea that money is what makes us happy and fruitful, productive people. You need to slow down, its not the amount of "graditude" or "money" that the work creates. its the satisfaction of knowing that, your so good at what you do, you did a hell of a job doing it, and many people will find it usefull. Not how much of a return you got on your investment, it WAS the investment! The benefit of innovation and creativity to help mankinds ability to live in harmony with nature and technology is the biggest reward of all. We are build to be creative and explorative. Money only serves to keep people in a line to do repedative or otherwise unbeneficial labor for the sake of society so that the paying of debts for those who have all of the money is possible.

The satisfaction of the job is definitely a contributor, but there's also the value not of the money itself, but of what it allows one to do. Ultimately, happiness is a function of the things your circumstances allow you to do, and money can be seen as the great facilitator in that light.
ReplyDeleteIt isn't money that serves to keep people "in line" - it's INFORMATION. Money, to me, seems to be a neutral party in that dynamic - it can help or hinder, all depending on who's using it. What really "keeps people in line" is the availability of information - to quote a certain fictional character, free flow of information is the only safeguard against tyranny.
